“Seeing History Come Alive
Series”
?>
I am James and I am just like you. We are
all a part of an intricate web, spun in time. Some
are doers, some are witnesses, but all of us are a
part of it all. I am just
someone with a passion to see that history is not
forgotten.
In high school I was fortunate to have a
teacher who knew how to bring history alive so
that it wasn’t just facts and figures but real
people that made the history. It was fascinating.
Now, I have a chance to see things in a different
light and I have the opportunity to report
it to you through this series entitled,
“Seeing History Come Alive”. I hope
that you all have as much fun reading about the
different subjects as I will in putting them
together.
Here’s a little tidbit of information that
I have learned about along the way, right here in
Bamberg County, South Carolina.
Barry
Bonds, one of the most prolific baseball players
of all time holds many records including Stolen
Bases/Home Runs and is the only member of the
500/500 club. He holds the record for the Most Valuable Player
Award 7 times, holds the record
for Home Runs in a season as well as
the all time Home Run Record and many more records
to numerous to mention in this small column. Yet
through all of that, Barry has never been
able to earn that all elusive World Series
Ring. It is a
difficult thing to attain, no matter who you are in
baseball.
Imagine that, and yet in our little
community of Bamberg, South Carolina,
we are the proud hometown to two
professional baseball players, a father
and son combo no less (the dad adopted his nephew
after his brother passed away).
“Mookie” Wilson and Preston
Wilson both have earned World Series
Rings. This makes a very
unusual point in the history of baseball. I can’t
say for certain, but I believe that we have the
distinction of having the only Father and Son team
to wear the coveted World Series Ring of
baseball, especially from
the same
hometown. I
would like to interview “Mookie” and Preston
together. That will be an interesting
interview for sure. So, stay tuned to our
magazine, and to the "Seeing History Come Alive"
two page column.
We hope you enjoy our magazine,
“The Light of the Low Country”
and the many articles that we will have in the
magazine throughout the year. Let us
remember , always try to be a Light to those
around you.
Matt. 5:
14 "You are the light of the world. A
city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people
light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a
stand, and it gives light to all in the
house. 16
In the same way, let your light shine
before others, so that they may see your good
works and give glory to your Father who is in
heaven.
Blessings to
all,
James
