 Meet Artist &
Photographer Ray Banfield
BIO
I was born in a log cabin and
learned how to write using charcoal. I also cut down a cherry
tree when I was a young sap. Oh, Lincoln and Washington.
I remember now. When you is as old as I is you get confused
sometimes. I'm actually a post war baby
boomer. Raised on Father Knows Best, Donna Reed Show and
Howdy Doody. If your too young to remember Howdy ask your
folks. Then ask them to sing the theme song.
One
of 5 kids. I'm the second oldest and some unknown reason my
nickname is Rebel. I think it was a natural rebellion against
authority. My siblings still refer to me as Rebel. Left
home right after high school and for 4 years I traveled via my thumb
(hitchhiking ). Ended up in the Haight-Ashbury in '67
then in Marin County doing the self discovery stuff.
In 1969 traveled coast to coast hitchhiking and working my
way across country. Been married 38 years to my wife Becky and
have 4 daughters and 8 grandchildren. Got into painting when I
turned 55 because TV was so boring ( whatever happened to Roy
Rogers? ) Photography was an off-shoot of that. Then I
discovered I liked photography a lot more then painting.
I lean toward landscape photography which figures because
one of my idols in that field is Ansel Adams. This past year
I made trips into Yosemite National Park twice, Death Valley
National Park twice and Joshua Tree National Park once. I've also
published 3 books on my painting and photography in the past couple
of years ( Images and More Vol.1-3 By Ray Banfield). Oh, for
an old guy I'm still having fun!!!
